Hypocrisy at the Palladim: Nuts. For most of this set I was one or two people deep away from a circle pit making it an extremely hostile environment for my first flash photography experiment. I didn’t even TRY to get too close to the stage as the people 3 rows deep were crushed into the stage, and directly behind them was the massive circle pit. As a concert-goer I love watching moshpits; it’s like giving hommage to the band playing. As a photographer it can be disastrous.
Fortunately the lighting actually helped the shots that I managed to get. Strobes alternately helped/hurt some shots so I didn’t bother working with the flash too much. When I DID use the flash, it seemed to hinder me more, as hands flailing in the air ended up catching more of the flash than the actual band members.
Stay tuned onMusician Photo Journal for the interview with Peter Tägtgren and review of the show, coming up.
