Dashboard Confessional

Chris Carrabba of Dashboard ConfessionalThis was the furthest I’ve trekked thus-far for a show. I dragged my parents out to NYC for the weekend so that I could finally see Dashboard Confessional. And this show was especially wonderful to me because it was an acoustic show. The first and only other time I’d seen Dashboard Confessional was when I was in college, before I even knew  who Chris Carrabba was. That was in 2001. Bitter cold December  isn’t exactly the best time to hit up a show in the city but how could I possibly turn up the opportunity to see one of the most memorable live performances of my life? I didn’t know the term emo when I first saw him play live but I could not get the visual out of my head of his powerful command of music. And let me also say this: I don’t listen to any other acoustic songwriters like this. I’m not into John Mayer or Jack Johnson or any of the above. Something about Dashboard struck the right chord with me at the right time in my life and no one else will ever do it better for me. The night before this show, I was at a hardcore show in Worcester Mass, which was QUITE a different crowd. Dashboard really has a mature, educated audience who are  young: 20-30 something young, not teenager young. Don’t get me wrong; I”m a hardcore girl at heart, but it was awesome to see folks truly enjoying the performance and not trying to get hammered and pick a fight in the middle of a mosh pit. Chris Carrabba charmed the crowd with such songs as Belle of the Boulevard, Vindicated, Bend and not Break, Saints and Sailors, with a one-song encore of Hands Down. I was concerned at this show because while the venue (Highline Ballroom) was quite nice, there was no photo pit. I had to work my way through the crowd which isn’t something I look forward to. I did manage to sneak in a few great shots of Chris as he moved his way toward my side of the stage and caught some great candids. This was easily one of the best shows I’ve been to this year. Top 5, I’d say. And I would travel again within the tri-state area to see him play again. See the entire setlist on setlist.fm See the rest of the Dashboard Confessional Photos
